It is a Green Time of Year

Things are going green around here.

We have finally had some rain and the difference is amazing.

Where once we had dead brown crispy stalks, we now have grass coming through. Here is a before photo.

Here is Chevy exploring in our yard.
Now I will post some green photos to show you what is happening.  I have little bits of garden here and there about the place.  Mum gave me some rhubarb seedlings so I popped them in with some mushroom compost, but also put in some tomato and lettuce seedlings so they wouldn't be lonely.

Here is a later photo showing how well all the plants are growing.

Then we have a raised garden and a herb garden created on the lawn in front of the ramp. Still pretty dry when this photo was taken.

This pot below is one Craig gave me and I have put alyssum, nasturtium and lettuce around it.

Look at it now. Very pretty.

Here is a wee froggy visitor who arrived today. Perhaps he is the one from the water tanks come to have a look at us.  He is sitting on top of the clothesline on the deck.

The silver beet, lettuces, capsicums and beans are all doing well too.

And just look at how well these tomatoes are doing!

While down in the original garden beds I have a little butternut pumpkin growing. It is less than 2 inches long yet.

Well. That's all for now.  It takes ages to get all the photos loaded and my poor laptop is on its last legs.  I will come back soon with some more photos of green things as I have lots more seeds planted out in the potting shed.

Bye for now.  Lesley

A Quick Trip Down

On Friday we took a quick drive down to Kilkivan to take some stuff (for want of a better description) and to collect our trailer and some cardboard cartons for packing.

Our move is getting closer and with a bit of luck we will be moving out of the managers unit in just over a weeks time.

We took Enzo with us for a drive. 2 reasons. Firstly he loves to be with us and loves coming in the car.  Secondly he is going a bit stir crazy not being able to get outside and stretch his legs with a good run. If we left him here at the motel he would torment Elmo and try to climb over the gate to get out. Which he can do being such a clever cat.

Relaxing in his favourite spot.
After checking out the garden with us and generally running around letting off steam he settled into his favourite spot where he can watch all the little honeyeater birds getting the nectar from the grevilleas.

Very pretty little birds and singing away happily. It is so relaxing just sitting, watching and listening.

In the distance I could hear a tractor busily working away and he was making hay. Those big round bales.  After a while there were quite a few of them dotted around his paddock. The weather forecast was for rain so I am pleased he got it done before the rain came.

It is a bit hard to pick out the tractor, but he is right there in the middle. Yes, he is!

Back to Gayndah we came. The Fire and Rescue training which was booked in for this weekend has been cancelled, so we might be able to get onto some packing instead.

Bye for now. Will be back soon.

Back to the country

Kilkivan here we come.
Hi there.

I am back after nearly 3 years.
We have been running a motel and it left me no time to think let alone have a decent sleep and I am so very very tired all the time.

Back in January we purchased a house on 1 acre of land in Kilkivan, which is out in the country about half an hours drive from Gympie.  It is a beautiful peaceful spot and we are both really looking forward to moving here permanently.

And of course I hope to be able to keep you more up to date on my activities, be it gardening, craft, visitors or outings.

Here is one of my favourite photos of the view from our spacious deck taken very early one morning when the mist was still hanging about.

At the moment it is still so very dry here as we had almost no rain this summer.  The summer before we had the terrible floods and the creek in the middle of the picture overflowed its banks and ran right through the showgrounds.

That is all I have time for right now, but I will be back as things progress.
Bye for now

Visitors from Christchurch

A couple of weeks ago, in fact, the day spring arrived in Gayndah, we had Mum and Dad & Chris & Sue to visit.  We had a lovely bbq lunch and some kookaburras flew in for a visit.

Beaching

Here are a few photos from our recent trip to Bargara Beach with Kez.

We had a fun walk along the beach.
Can you see the kingfisher on the rock?  I tried to creep closer but just after I took this shot he flew away!

These seagulls were too light to make tracks on the wet sand.  Someone had been drawing in the sand though.  There were lots of people about just walking, playing and relaxing like us.

I was fascinated with the lovely braided patterns made by the water on the sand.

Small crabs had been very busy pushing these little balls of sand out as they burrowed down out of the sun.

There is always lots to look at on the beach and we don't get there very often as we live over 200 km away.  It is nice to have these photos to look back on.

I will be back soon and hopefully will have a bit more to say.  I have got out of the way of putting my thoughts into the laptop.

Beach at Sunrise

Hi.  Me again.
I haven't been around for a while, but I pop in from time to time trying to upload a photo or two.  But it doesn't seem to have been working.

But suddenly, when you least expect it, we have success.  The photo above was taken at Bargara Beach, near Bundaberg QLD, very early one morning.  We managed to get a couple of days off from the motel and headed for the beach for a break.  We took Kezia with us and had a lovely apartment overlooking the beach.   One morning we were watching a large pod of whales playing.  It was a really good break, but not long enough.

I will try and get some more photos off my camer to show you.  Keep watching out, because I will be back.  I just have to go and prepare some meals right now.

A Busy Life

Lifestyle?  What lifestyle?

We have been rather busy settling in to the motel, learning all the little bits and pieces that we need to know.  Well some of it is written down and we take notes where we can, but such a lot of it is in Esther and Kristian's heads.  They have told us loads of stuff we need to know so I just hope we can remember it all.  We were so tired last night that when some guests asked where they could get food, we forgot we had a Chinese Takeaway in town.

We had to learn how to cook all the items on the menu, so one lunchtime we worked our way through it by Esther showing us what she does for each item. We ate well that day!

I have been trying for 3 days to upload pictures to show you of the motel and of us cooking, but with no success.

Suffice to say I have now given up, so no pictures today.

It is now Sunday afternoon, I have had a little nap and we have one more person to check in.  We have started calling them chickins as Esther was so enraptured with our kiwi accents she would repeat everything we said with an exaggeration! So Check in becomes chickin.

I am getting really good at breakfasts and the 3 men on a fishing trip were very pleased with my scrambled eggs and stayed another night and had the same breakfast again.  'Fabulous' was the way one of them described my scrambled eggs!!

R and I walked over to the markets this morning. They are just across the road in the park so no parking problems for us.  We bought some nice fresh corn on the cob which we enjoyed for lunch.

Esther and Kristian have gone now. They fly out to Singapore tonight from Brisbane and then on to Heathrow.  Esther is going to Wales and Kristian to his home in Norway.  They are both excited to be seeing their parents for Christmas and very pleased that we have made it possible for them.  The motel is still not settled, so we are just managing it for now until the bank and the landlord get their s... sorted!  In other words they are the ones holding it up, not us.

Thank you for reading my blog with no pics today.

I hope to have some pics available again soon.
